[Powers] Kitty has well-honed control over her mutation - intangibility, also referred to as "phasing". Kitty is able, at will, to cause her atoms to pass through the spaces between another object's atoms, with no harmful effects or pain to herself or the object, unless the object is an electronic device. In which case, a trip to Best Buy might be in order. This ability also allows Kitty to, in effect, walk on air. She can cause an item or person she has physical contact with to become intangible by extension. This is how she remains clothed when phasing, otherwise there might have been some unfortunate incidents in the past. As a precautionary measure, Kitty has honed her phasing reflexes to the point where she will revert into and remain in an intangible state at the slightest sign of danger, for example, a gunshot.
[Personality] If it weren't for her quick temper, mercurial moods, her propensity for holding grudges and a distaste for wanton stupidity, Kitty would make a gleaming example of a pleasant girl. She has seen a lot since she was brought under the wing of the X-Men at the tender age of thirteen, so suffice it to say she hasn't had your average upbringing. Her maturity level shifts often and noticeably... depending on what time of day you catch her. At her best, she is a reasonable, level-headed, strategically minded addition to Cyclops' team, and an intuitive liaison between the student body and the faculty. At her worst, she's an over-caffienated twenty-something with a mouth that relays her thoughts before she has time to run a propriety-check and a dark gift for navigating the world of hacking.
While Kitty's emotional intelligence is nothing to scoff at, she is none the less a woman at odds with the persona of the girl who grew up too fast, saw too much and was not unwillingly pushed into maturity at a young age. She has trouble coping with loss and harbours resentment towards her parents for their divorce, which only grew when her father died on Genosha, though she dealt with some of it during her time with Logan in Japan. Neither does she deal effectively with grief, and has a tendency to repress emotional pain until it surfaces in the form of chronic irritation.
When dealing with the students in her class, Kitty is attentive to their individual needs, and pays meticulous attention to the overall learning speed of her charges, adjusting her curriculum accordingly. If anything, she is among the best suited to teaching of the staff, given that she is not, in reality, much older than some of her students. She can easily relate to their problems, having been a young person at the mansion, herself. If there is a less soft side to her classroom manner, it would be her expectation that everyone keep up. Her opinion is that if she can take the time to pay attention to a student’s individual needs in regards to her curriculum, they can put in the effort to learn it.
[History] Kitty was handpicked to the Xavier Institute at the tender age of 13 when she manifested her ability to phase through solid objects. She was the youngest member of the team, and remained one of the X-Men throughout years of harrowing experiences, which have shaped her into the person she is now.
Currently, Kitty resides at the mansion in Westechester, invited back by Cyclops as one of the faculty, and a liaison to the student body. She had been enrolled at the University of Chicago, doing her own part for mutant rights as she attended to her own education when the call came to return to the mansion to teach computational theory. She agreed, packed up herself, her belongings and Lockheed, and returned to New York. She wasn’t home a week when their first mission shaped up, putting her squarely back in the field. She’d be lying if she said she hadn’t missed the adrenaline rush of being an X-Man again.
More background to be added as RP progresses.
[Additional information]
~ Kitty has a near-constant companion in the fire-breathing purple dragon named Lockheed, whom she befriended on a mission in space several years ago with the X-Men. Lockheed has been both a protector and an ally in Kitty’s career with the mutant team, and she considers him to be family. Lockheed’s intelligence is unquestionable, however the full extent of it is as yet unknown. Lockheed can, evidently, understand English, and even speak a few words of it, though he is by no means fluent. Professor Xavier once speculated that Lockheed has a language of his own. In her spare time, Kitty is in the process of creating a sophisticated computer program which will log all of Lockheed’s “speech” in an effort to create some sort of translator so she can better communicate with her alien companion, though he seems quite able to understand her as it stands.
~ Kitty may have left England behind when she rejoined the X-Men, but she took Pete Wisdom’s affections with her. The couple maintain a committed long-distance relationship, and he visited her frequently when she was at school – an occurrence not likely to change with her return to the mansion. It is worth noting that Wisdom and Lockheed have come to a tentative truce in their mutual dislike of each other. That is to say, Pete avoids Lockheed like the plague and Lockheed has stopped leaving perishable food items in Wisdom’s shoes.
~ Kitty’s IQ ranges about 140, qualifying the girl as a full-fledged genius.
~ At one point, Kitty was possessed by Ogun, and an intimate knowledge of martial arts was imposed upon her memory. Logan trained her in various other forms of martial arts to prepare her for the day when she would battle Ogun for control of herself. When she was no longer host to Ogun, all of his knowledge left her as well, however, she remains skilled in the martial arts Logan coached her in.
~ Since a young age, Kitty has involved herself in various forms of dance and gymnastic, rendering her very agile. While she wasn’t able to keep up her dance training at UofC, she has resumed taking classes with her long-time trainer, Stevie Hunter, now that she is back in New York.
~ Kitty is fluent in Russian, thanks to Professor Xavier.
~ Kitty is devoutly Jewish.
~ Kitty is allergic to cats. *snicker*
[Disclaimer] Kitty's not mine. She belongs to Marvel. I just play in their sandbox. Emmy Rossum isn't mine, either. This is a fictional journal created for use in
